Practice for business world

PRODUCTION, financial control, human resources, quality control, and marketing…

Sound complicated? Now students and future business leaders can sharpen their business management skills in the Global Management Challenge (GMC) contest.
“Everything you encounter in GMC happens in the real business world,” said Cao Ping from the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China. “It’s good for those students who’re future businessmen to get some practice in advance.”
Last week, a student team from Beijing Institute of Technology (BIT) won the first prize in the 2005 GMC China competition, which attracted hundreds of entrants from 81 universities.
They will represent China in the international final to be held this April in Warsaw, Poland.
The GMC began in 1980 in Portugal, and is based on a standard international computerized business management system. China, Britain, France, Italy, Spain, Brazil, Australia, Germany, Morocco, Mexico and Portugal all participate in the GMC.
Usually several people form a team and act as if they are the board of a real company. Teams compete for market share in a model economic environment.
Each must consider every aspect that real companies might face, such as marketing, production, financing, human resources, and research and development.
The team with the highest virtual share price at the end of the match wins.
