The Global Management Challenge (GMC) is just the right form of training that Chinese personnel need. GMC China is the prologue to the international one which is to be held in Lisbon, Portugal in February 1997.
The winner of the GMC China will represent China to take part in it. GMC China is jointly organized by China's Enterprises Management Association, China's youth Daily, 21st Century and Beijing CDS Information Consulting.
GMC China will be held in Beijing and Shanghai from June to December and the national final will take place in Beijing in December. The applications have already started and the deadline is June15. The teams can choose to use either English or Chinese. but at least one English-language team in each region is required.
Many leading universities and top joint venture companies in China have expressed their willingness to take part in this challenge. Each team with a maximum of six person will be given a fictitious company to manage. "They are supplied with a manual outlining the structure and operations of the company, details of the company's competitive situation in the market and also some information about its rivals," said David Shi an officer of this event's organizing committee secretariat. Then each team will make a series of decisions on factors such as price, promotion, production, administration, research, salaries, recruitment, investment, finance and distribution the computer and experts will evaluate the economic results from those decisions.

The winner will be the team that has achieved the highest share price. This challenge is held on the basis of a management simulation system controlled by computer developed by EDIT515td for over20years.the simulation is based on many real management cases and supported by basic rules in the business activities. "This management simulation forms an integral part of a number of MBA programs in Europe and similar versions are used for in-house training programs in many major international companies. It has proven to be a highly acclaimed management training tool, and tests a manager's ability to make decisions in a highly competitive environment, "said Xu Guohua,professor of the school of economic management, Qinghua University.
